Capitals star: My finger ‘kinda fell off’ during Stanley Cup finals
If you need more proof that hockey players are tough, Brooks Orpik is Exhibit A.
The star defenseman, who helped lead the Capitals to a Stanley Cup title with a 4-1 series win over the Golden Knights, told reporters he had part of his left pinky finger sliced off during Game 2 of the finals.
Orpik said he never doubted he would get back into the game as soon as it was reattached.
The injury occurred near the end of the Capitals’ 3-2 win, when the Golden Knights’ Erik Haula slashed him. Though it was a gruesome injury, Haula only received a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct.
While discussing a different hand injury, Orpik matter-of-factly said his left pinky “kinda fell off,” but that the medical staff did a great job putting him back together so that he could get back into the game.
“It probably looked worse than it was,” Orpik said.
Yeah, right.
