The Rangers added some fiber and — gasp! — experience to the needy right side of the blue line by acquiring Adam McQuaid from the Bruins on Tuesday in exchange for Steven Kampfer and a fourth-round draft pick, The Post has learned.

McQuaid, who will turn 32 on Oct. 12, joins righties Kevin Shattenkirk, Neal Pionk and Tony DeAngelo on the depth chart. Lefties Brendan Smith and Fredrik Claesson are also options on their off side for head coach David Quinn’s squad that will open training camp on Friday. DeAngelo, by the way, is no longer waivers-exempt.

The 6-4 McQuaid, who has one year at $2.75 million remaining on his deal, brings a physical element to the Ranger defense that has been lacking for years in that area. A staple on the Boston line since his rookie (and Stanley Cup-winning) 2010-11 season, McQuaid played in only 38 games last season, missing nearly three months after suffering a broken right fibula while blocking a shot on Oct. 19.

He returned in mid-January and posted one goal and three assists with 62 PIM in 15:42 of average ice time while partnered primarily with Torey Krug or Matt Grzelcyk. McQuaid played in all 12 of his team’s playoff games, getting 13:19 per while recording a goal and assist while the Bruins were knocked out in the second round by Tampa Bay.

The Rangers should have between $2.6 million and $3.5 million in cap space available at the start of the year depending upon whether the team starts with seven or eight defensemen on the roster.
