The departure of Nielsen, who repeatedly found herself at odds with the president over border policy, reportedly comes after Trump told border patrol agents to break the law and block migrants from entering the country.

Trump tapped Kevin McAleenan, the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, to lead the agency on an acting basis.

It was also reported Monday that White House adviser Stephen Miller has been pushing for two other top DHS officials, Director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Lee Cissna and general counsel John Mitnick, to be dismissed.
