Kim Jong Un to visit Russia this month: Kremlin

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will visit Russia later this month, the Kremlin said Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

The Kremlin said in a statement that Kim will visit the country “in the second half of April” on an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin but did not provide further details, the AP reported.

The event would mark a rare meeting between the two leaders, the AP noted.

Moscow said last month that Kim and Putin confirmed they would meet, but the details had yet to be finalized.

“There is no clarity now. The contacts have been ongoing through diplomatic channels. Indeed, this visit is on the agenda and there was an invitation,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the time. “We hope that in the near future the exact date and venue will be agreed on through diplomatic channels.”
