Demi Lovato Takes on Tabloids Questioning Her Sobriety Following Overdose

It has been approximately a month since Demi Lovato left rehab following a drug overdose this summer, and the tabloids are still coming out with stories surrounding her sobriety. Despite what the media says, Demi wants her fans to know that she is “happy and clean.”

Lovato, who left her live-in rehabilitation center in November, went on a Twitter tirade against the tabloids, defending her health. “I love my fans, and hate tabloids. Don’t believe what you read. People will literally make up stuff to sell a story. Sickening,” she began her series of tweets.

“If I feel like the world needs to know something, I will tell them MYSELF,” she continued. “Otherwise people stop writing about my recovery, because it’s no one’s business but mine. I am sober and grateful to be alive and taking care of ME.”

She went on to reveal that she will speak about her overdose one day when the time is right. “Someday I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened, and what my life is like today.. but until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up shit that you know nothing about,” Lovato wrote. “I still need space and time to heal..”

The singer doubled down on her warning of not believing everything you read. “Any ‘source’ out there that is willing to talk and sell stories to blogs and tabloids about my life isn’t actually a part of my life because most of the shit I see is soooooo inaccurate,” she said. “So newsflash: your ‘sources’ are wrong.”

While there is contention between her and the media, Demi assured fans that she has nothing but love for them. “I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don’t owe anyone anything so I’m not going to,” she continued her message. “All my fans need to know is I’m working hard on myself, I’m happy and clean and I’m SO grateful for their support.”

“I’m so blessed I get to take this time to be with family, relax, work on my mind, body and soul and come back when I’m ready. I have my fans to thank for that. I’m so grateful, truly. I love you guys so fucking much thank you.”

After leaving rehab, Demi has been slowly re-emerging back into the spotlight. At the midterm elections, she encouraged America to get out and vote with a snapshot of herself at the polls. And in the process of getting back on social media, the “Cool for the Summer” singer unfollowed some of her famous friends, including Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, and Iggy Azalea.

We’re rooting for you, Demi!
