Lyon vs St Étienne: Explosive device leaves steward with two less fingers

According to the website Lyon Mag, an explosive device at last night’s derby match between Lyon and St Étienne has caused a steward to lose two fingers.

The steward in question was manning the northern corner of the Stade Gerland, where he suffered a serious hand injury on Sunday, during Lyon’s 3-0 victory.

The steward had seized a homemade bomb, but was holding it at the time of detonation, losing two fingers. He was then taken to hospital urgently.

The steward had to have surgery early this morning and according to a source close to the OL, the steward is believed to have had is hand amputated. This morning, the Rhone club began identifying supporters who had brought these bombs inside the stadium using CCTV footage in order to punish them. Several incidents took place across the stadium, injuring several stewards over the course of the match, according to RMC.
