MOORESVILLE, NC — A Mooresville officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop along West Plaza Drive Saturday night. The suspected gunman fled the scene but was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
According to Mooresville Police Department, K-9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, 32, pulled over the alleged gunman shortly after 10 p.m. in a routine traffic stop.
“The suspect in the shooting fled the scene and was later located in a nearby apartment,” MPD said. “Once police entered the residence, the suspect was confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Sheldon was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
A procession of law enforcement and public safety vehicles escorted Sheldon’s body Sunday morning at 10 a.m. from the Charlotte hospital, located at 1600 Garden Terrace, MPD said.
