Seinfeld ‘Face Painter’ surprises Devils fans for Game 4
The Devils could use the energy of one of their most prominent fans, whose famous TV character made a cameo appearance at the Prudential Center Wednesday night.
Patrick Warburton, best known for his role as David Puddy in the ’90s sitcom “Seinfeld,” brought one scene back to life from the 1995 episode “The Face Painter,” in which he paints his face red and black for the Devils playoff game against the Rangers and annoys his girlfriend Elaine, played by Julia Louis Dreyfus. He appeases her by staying away from the face paint, but instead attends the game with a “D” painted on his bare stomach, as the first member of a group spelling out “Devils” in the stands.
Warburton, a New Jersey native, donned both the painted face and stomach for Game 4 of the Devils’ first-round series against the Lightning. Appearing on the videoboard above the ice, Warburton, 53, waved a rally towel before pulling off his jersey to reveal a red “D” and delivering a pump-up message to the New Jersey crowd.
The Devils came into the game down 2-1 in the series, after taking Game 3 from the Lightning at home Monday night, 5-2.
