Will Mats Zuccarello’s foot injury keep him out the rest of season?

Mats Zuccarello did not play for the Rangers in Tuesday night’s 5-2 loss to the Devils in Newark, but the winger has not been ruled out of the season’s final two games by coach Alain Vigneault after an MRI exam on his foot and ankle came up clean.

“It’s just a matter of whether he can handle the pain,” Vigneault said.

Zuccarello, checked after blocking multiple shots the past couple of games, had played in 78 of the first 79 contests, missing only the Jan. 8 match at Arizona because of an illness. The winger leads the Rangers with 52 points (16 goals, 36 assists).

With Zuccarello and Jesper Fast (out for the duration with a groin issue) sidelined, Cody McLeod and Peter Holland rejoined the lineup. McLeod had been a healthy scratch for the previous two while Holland had sat out the previous three games.
